Referees boss Stuart Cummings has expressed his gratitude to both Wigan and Hull KR in treating referee Phil Bentham.

Bentham fractured his lower leg after a collision with Hull KR fullback Shannon McDonnell on Friday. The accidental collision resulted in a try for Wigan, but everyone’s concerns were for the referee who could be seen in distress on the ground immediately after the incident.

Cummings said: “On behalf of the RFL I would like to thank the staff and officials of Wigan and Hull KR, they could not have done more to assist Phil on Friday night.

“The professionalism of both clubs’ medical teams was exceptional. Phil could not have received better treatment.”

Bentham was take to Wigan infirmary following the accident, and is expected to be out for at least eight weeks.

Everyone at Love Rugby League wishes Phil a speedy recovery.
