Whitehaven have signed experienced forward Kris Coward from rivals Workington Town on a one-year contract.

Coward has played all his career at Town, with the experienced forward making his debut back in 2007 and going on to make 189 appearances for the League 1 outfit.

The 36-year-old was part of the Cumbria Select XIII who played against England at the Recreation Ground in 2010 in Garry Purdham’s memorial fixture.

And Coward says he is delighted to be joining Carl Forster’s Haven ahead of the 2018 campaign.

“I’m looking forward to signing for my hometown club,” he said.

“It’s something that I have had in my mind for the past year or so and after speaking to Foz (Carl Forster) a couple of times and seeing what he wants to build for next season, it was the right time to come and I wanted a new challenge.

“Next season, if we build on what the lads have done this season and push and work hard, promotion is more than capable with the squad that is getting built.

“I’d like to thank Town for the way they have treated me over the past 10 years. I’m grateful and made some friends for life.”
