Coventry Bears announce partnership with amateur conference side

Coventry bears have announced a dual-registration agreement with amateur side Swindon St George.

St George, who compete in the Conference League South, will work with the Bears to help players progress from the community game to the semi-professional ranks.

Furthermore, Ben Whincup, who is already heavily involved with St George, will now join the Betfred League 1 side as Assistant Coach.

Coventry Bears Managing Director Alan Robinson said: “We have a number of players within our environment from that area and St George are a progressive club with a strong brand.

“They want to work with us to benefit from our experience on and off the field.”

Bears Assistant Coach Ben Whincup added: I’m delighted that we are able to bring this pathway from the south west up to league 1.

“The potential in this area is huge and hopefully with me combining roles with both the Bears and St George I can close the gap between the community game and the professional game.

“Hopefully we will see more local talent in the Bears squad over the coming seasons.”
