Costigan pleased with stupid moment of derby skill

Hull KR forward Neville Costigan has admitted that moments of skill like his reverse pass at Magic Weekend are a rare thing for him.

The PNG international flicked the ball off his ankles to allow Josh Hodgson to score the match-clinching try in Rovers’ victory over Hull FC.

“That was a bit of coconut footy! I don’t normally do that. I just heard someone calling behind me, and tried to get the ball away quickly,” Costigan told Love Rugby League.

“I knew there was a couple of players behind me on overlaps, who I knew would get close to scoring if I could get the ball to them.

“It was a bit stupid, and I wouldn’t normally do that.

“But I’m glad I pulled it off.”

Hull KR have begun to grow a significant support base in Papua New Guinea, partly as a result of Costigan’s presence in the squad.

The giant forward also had an encouraging message for the ever-expanding army of Red and Whites in PNG.

“They should just keep watching,” he said.

“They love their rugby league, no matter where it is. They love catching up with the PNG boys.

“Hopefully we’ll get close to the Grand Final for them.”
