Cornwall have won their first home game since joining League 1, beating London Skolars 35-10.

It was the perfect way for the Choughs to start their home campaign and it was all built on a superb first half performance that saw them open up a 25-0 lead.

Having started their season with a tough loss away at Midlands Hurricanes, before going down to amateurs Rochdale Mayfield in the Challenge Cup, it was a morale-boosting and historic victory.

Their only previous win came last June, when they won away 24-4 at West Wales Raiders.

Errol Carter got the scoring underway as he took on Kaine Dimech’s offload before Nathan Cullen crossed following good work from Jack Way.

Carter’s second followed and Cam Brown scored a fourth try as the Choughs took command.

Adam Rusling then scored Cornwall’s first ever drop goal, and though they missed a late penalty, their lead was 25-0 at half-time.

Skolars tried to get back in to the match and eventually got on the board on 57 minutes when Jerome Yates barged over.

Cornwall were then reduced to 12 men with Ray sinbinned, and Anthony Cox got Skolars second try to get the hosts twitching at 25-10.

But Brown’s second eased any nerves and Harry Aaronson made it a celebratory finale with a late try.

Elsewhere, League 1 early pacesetters Dewsbury thrashed Rochdale 52-4.

Oldham celebrated the news of their takeover and forthcoming move back to Boundary Park with a hard-fought 18-4 win over North Wales Crusaders.

Despite suffering defeat, there was something to celebrate for Crusaders – as winger Rob Massam scored his 200th first class try.

He becomes only the 19th Wales international to achieve the feat, with 166 of those coming for Crusaders plus one for his country.

Massam said: “I’m buzzing. I’ve been involved with the club for a long time so this is a huge career milestone for me.

“To be on the same list as many of Wales Rugby League’s great players is something to be proud of. I’m incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity all those years ago to start playing professional rugby league.”

Workington were made to work hard for a 38-28 win away at Midlands Hurricanes.
