Warrington head coach Daryl Powell has provided the latest on centre Connor Wrench, who has been sidelined since last August.

Wrench, 21, suffered an ACL injury during the club’s 32-18 victory over Toulouse at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Round 23.

The talented centre underwent surgery and has been on the road to recovery ever since, nearing the nine month stage of the process.

Powell has confirmed that Wrench is set to join the rest of the group this week, and is just a few weeks away from returning to action.

Powell provides Connor Wrench latest

“He is a couple of weeks away, maybe just under, for coming back,” Powell confirmed.

“He’s been ill actually. He’s been working exceptionally hard and probably has rattled his immune system a little bit.

“He should be back in training tomorrow. He’s probably 10 days away from playing.

“It will be great to see him back out there. The medical team have done an awesome job with him, getting him back to where he’s just about ready to play and he looks in great shape.

“He’ll go through the process and protocols of contact training to return to play. He’s pretty much gone through all that. He’s just about ready.”

Warrington squad nears strongest yet

Powell welcomes back Joe Bullock from injury to his 21-man squad for Friday’s return to Super League, with the side hosting Mark Applegarth’s Wakefield.

Having left the field through injury against St Helens prior to the international break, Daryl Clark has also been included.

Joe Philbin and Paul Vaughan return from their respective suspensions, with only Gil Dudson still sidelined due to his five-match ban.

“It’s been a real tough period for us and our middle unit, people in and out of the team,” Powell said.

“We’ve generally always had a couple of players coming back from injury or suspension. What we need and could do with now is to get that middle unite embedded and getting them playing together consistently well and then we’ll see how good we can be I think.

“It’s been a very difficult management period for our middle unit. We’ve got through it, but it has been tough.

“We get a few back this week, so let’s see how good we can be.”
