Connor: I want a starting spot

New Hull FC signing Jake Connor says he is looking to impress in pre-season to grab a starting spot for 2017.

Connor has arrived from Huddersfield. He can play at fullback and in the halves.

“I’m out there to prove myself this year,” he said.

“I want that starting spot so I’m going to go all out in these pre-season friendlies to prove that and show I deserve a spot in the starting 17. Hopefully I can do that.

“The structure suits me well. I like to run the ball and the shape that we play with opens up the space as well.

“I’m looking forward to putting some moves on in games and getting some combinations going with the rest of the lads.”

Connor, who penned a two-year deal with the Black and Whites back in July, knows what areas he needs to improve on to get himself in the team for the start of the season.

“I’ve just got to play how I play – take control and use my running game, which is a big part of my game,” he said.

“I’ve got to take the line on more and just make the right decisions when defending and attacking.

“That’s the thing I’ve got to work on: making the right decisions in the key points in the game.”
