Collective effort drives Peacock one final time
Leeds lynchpin Jamie Peacock has revealed that it is his love of team work and collective effort which has driven him for much of his illustrious rugby league career.
That career is set to end this weekend when the Rhinos face Wigan in the Super League Grand Final, and Peacock is looking forward to being able to so some of the things in life that most of us take for granted.
“In the semi-final against St Helens last week, I looked around towards the end of the game and there were 10 of us in our team on that very edge, knowing we needed to chip in together to get through,” Peacock wrote in his column in the Daily Mirror.
“Marathon runners do it, so do boxers, but the only other team sport I can think of like that is rowing – and in that you’re in a boat that means you’re not likely to get physically hurt.
“I love that shared sense of doing it together, and that’s one of the main reasons I’ve put myself through it so many times over the last 20 years.
“Come Sunday morning I will have left that behind, and I’m looking forward to some of the smaller things in life.”
