Cockayne targets three from three for Hull KR

Hull KR utility back Ben Cockayne knows that his team’s hopes for a play-off berth revolve around winning their last three games.

Rovers make the short trip to Hull FC, before welcoming Catalan Dragons to the KC Lightstream Stadium. Their final game of the season is away at Wakefield Wildcats.

“We’ve got three tough games left, in Hull, Catalan and Wakefield, and we want to win all three. It’s as simple as that,” Cockayne told Love Rugby League.

“If we want to hold any kind of hopes of getting in the play-offs, we’re going to need to do that.

“So that’s our aim for the end of the season: win three from three.”

Rovers have recruited heavily for next season, especially in the outside backs, with players like Ken Sio, Josh Mantellato and Kieran Dixon all set to arrive in the close-season.

Cockayne is ready to pull his sleeves up and fight for his place, though.

“It’s looking very exciting,” he said.

“They’ve gone very hard in the outside backs which as Chris Chester said is maybe down to people like me lacking a bit of pace.

“They seem to have some pace lined up now, and it’s going to be great for competition.

“I did sit down and speak to Chris Chester myself the other day, and asked what his plans were.

“He said that, come pre-season, it’s a level playing field. The people that perform during training and during pre-season will be the players that start.

“So for the players who are already there, it’s in our hands to make sure that we get a spot.”
