Cleary happy with Panthers performance

Penrith coach Ivan Cleary was a happy man following his team’s resounding victory over the Sydney Roosters at the weekend.

The Panthers scored three unanswered tries, two through speedster Michael Jennings, beating the Tricolours 18-0.

The performance was in contrast to that of last week’s, which saw them give up the lead in the home loss against Canterbury.

Cleary said he was happy with the result.

“It was good to hear the team song, haven’t heard it before,” he said.

“I’ve been looking forward to hearing that, I guess to win away from home and not concede a point is doubly satisfying.

“There’s still a fair way to go but the effort and the application was certainly there and that’s what got us the game.”

He added: “It’s a new team, and we’re making little steps along the way, and today was a positive improvement from last week.”
