Civoniceva won’t hold back youngsters

Queensland legend Petero Civoniceva says he doesn’t want to stand in the way of an upcoming young forwards wanting to play in this year’s State of Origin series.

Civoniceva, 35, is a veteran of the representative scene, playing 30 times for Queensland as well as earning 45 caps for the Kangaroos.

He has only missed two games for Queensland since making his debut back in 2001, and played in all three matches last season.

The Brisbane Broncos prop told Australian magazine Rugby League Week: “I don’t want to be holding back the young front rowers.

“I’m very conscious of that. I don’t want to be greedy, I don’t want to overstay my welcome.”

Civoniceva has returned to play his club footy in Queensland this season, having spent four years with Penrith Panthers.

He made more than 200 appearances in his first spell with the Broncos.
