Civoniceva sidelined for 2 weeks

Penrith’s finals hopes have received a blow with the news that skipper Petero Civoniceva is to serve a two match ban following his red card at the weekend.

Civoniceva received his marching orders for a swinging arm on Canterbury forward Gary Warburton late in the second half of the Panther’s dramatic 24-18 win at ANZ Stadium.

Despite taking an early guilty plea, Civoniceva will miss his team’s final round match with Cronulla at CUA Stadium on Saturday and the club’s first home final since 2004 the following week.

Civoniceva risked an extra one match on his ban if he unsuccessfully contested the charge at a hearing.
