Huddersfield will rest Chris Hill this week

Chris Hill is still one of the best props in Super League, with the veteran described as “the perfect Super League prop” who England must not overlook.

The 34-year-old has been in excellent form for surprise package Huddersfield after bringing an end to his decade-long career at Warrington.

And while the Wolves have struggled since Hill’s departure, Huddersfield are running hot. They have five wins in seven to sit third in Super League.

His form has been central to their upturn under head coach Ian Watson. The big forward has earned high praise from the club’s legendary prop Eorl Crabtree.

“Chris Hill has been unbelievable so far, he’s just been ridiculous,” Crabtree told Love Rugby League

“He was getting stick from the fans at first for giving too many penalties away. They thought we should have invested in youth. But you need experience to bring that youth on.

“Hill leads by example. They say once you are over the hill you start to speed up and he seems to be getting better and better each game.

“For a player of his calibre and what he has done you expect he might take the foot off the gas but he has been the exact opposite and realises that the Giants are on to something at the moment.”

England urged not to give up on Chris Hill in World Cup year

Hill was left out of Shaun Wane’s first England squad of the year, seemingly bringing down the curtain on his international career in World Cup year. But Crabtree has urged Wane not to give up on Hill.

“Chris Hill is still one of the best props in Super League,” he added.

“He is no nonsense, go forward, low centre of gravity, good footwork, finds the ground, plays the ball.

“That is the perfect Super League prop. He’s got a few years left and could quite easily be back with England. They probably won’t look at him now as he’s getting old and has gone to Huddersfield so he must be on his last legs. But it’s not like that at all. He is the ultimate professional.”
