Chester impressed by Donaldson and Green

Hull KR coach Chris Chester may have been extremely unhappy with the way his team played against St Helens on Friday evening, but some players did impress him.

With a Challenge Cup semi-final to play on Saturday in Leeds against St Helens, Chester felt that some of his players had played themselves out of contention for a first-team place.

His interchanges did impress him, however.

“I think a few players played themselves into the team next week,” he said.

“I thought Donaldson and Green, the whole bench really, gave us a lift when our backs were against the wall.

“But the flipside is the players who have probably played themselves out of a spot next week.

“We just weren’t good enough defensively and there were some really poor contacts, especially on the edges.”

With Rovers now confirmed as participants in the The Qualifiers section of the Super 8s, focus has become much more intensely directed onto Saturday’s semi final.

“It’s a game that we’re looking forward to, that’s our focus and our priority now,” Chester added.

“We’ll start building the boys up during the week. It’s a game we all want to win and we want to get to Wembley.”
