Chester Butler joins Huddersfield early

Huddersfield have signed Chester Butler from Halifax on loan for the rest of the season, ahead of his permanent move to the club in 2020.

Butler, 23, penned a three-year deal with the Giants earlier this year, but has been granted an early release with Halifax out of contention for the Championship play-offs.

He boosts the Giants squad as they continue their fight against relegation from Super League.

Coach Simon Woolford said: “It made sense to have another player available in the run in and a fresh face.

“Chester will train today with us and we’ll have a look at him in both the centres and backrow area.

“Whilst he’ll remain part time to fulfil the promises he’s made to his employer I’m sure we can get enough work into him if we need him to step up and make his Super League debut.

“It will be a challenge for him, but it will put some pressure on some of our guys knowing he’s there ready to have a crack”
