Chase in England squad

Castleford half-back Rangi Chase has been named in the initial England train-on squad ahead of the Four Nations.

Chase, 25, was born in New Zealand and represented New Zealand Maori in 2008 and 2010.

He moved to Castleford in 2009 and has recently signed a new deal at the PROBIZ Coliseum.

He said: “England, and in particular Castleford, is my home now and I want to lay my long-term roots here.”

Ironically, Chase featured against England playing for the Exiles in the International Origin match earlier this year.

Chase, a nominee for the 2011 Man of Steel, qualifies for England on residency grounds after spending three seasons in the UK.

England coach Steve McNamara said: “It’s excellent news that Rangi wants to play for England and commit his long-term future to our international programme.

“I have met with Rangi and he has shown to me that he is totally committed in playing for England and he can’t wait to be part of our plans. It is exciting news that we have a player of Rangi’s quality available to us. His presence will enhance the Elite Training Squad and will add great competition for places, especially in the crucial half-back role. I am really looking forward to working with him during our preparations in the build up to the Gillette Four Nations.”

England will take on Australia, New Zealand and Wales in this season’s Four Nations tournament, which begins on October 28.
