Chase for Eastmond hots up

Aviva Premiership club Bath have revealed that they are interested in signing St Helens star Kyle Eastmond.

Bath chief executive Nick Blofeld confirmed that the club had held talks with the 21-year-old England international and his manager about a cross-code move.

“We are always interested in good players and Kyle is clearly a very talented young man who has already achieved a lot in league and has great potential in union,” he told The Daily Express.

“We recently met Kyle and his manager and explained what we are up to here and showed him around.

“He is an impressive young man, very grounded but ambitious, and we’d be very interested in him joining Bath.”

The exciting youngster has been linked with a change of codes previously and his St Helens contract is due to expire at the end of the 2011 season.

Eastmond has long been considered the natural successor to Sean Long and has scored 30 tries in 50 Super League appearances since making his senior debut in 2007.

However, he has been dogged by fitness problems during the past 12 months and missed England‘s Four Nations campaign with an ankle injury.
