Wigan winger Josh Charnley said goodbye to his Warriors team mates and fans with a try in their Grand Final win over Warrington on Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford.

The England international is on his way to rugby union with Sale Sharks, but his current team beat Warrington 12-6 to claim the Super League crown.

Charnely pounced on a Dan Sarginson kick to claim the game’s key score, and he was enthusiastically hugged by former Wigan great Martin Offiah on the pitch after the final whistle.

“When I signed for Sale, I said to Shaun Wane that I wanted to finish with some silverware,”he told Sky Sports after the game.

“Having my friends, my family and all the fans here – what a way to finish!

“I’m pretty speechless to be honest.

“I’ve grown at this club. I’ve been here many years. I’ve been around the boys day-in and day-out, it’s like family here.

“It’s going to be an emotional night, but I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”
