Charlatans to play at Grand Final

Super League have confirmed that The Charlatans will provide pre-match and half-time entertainment at this year’s GRand Final at Old Trafford.

With hits like ‘North Country Boy’, ‘The Only One I Know’ and ‘How high’ to their name, the Mancunian indie rockers have become one of Britain’s best-loved bands over the years.

“My Dad’s a big rugby league fan and he used to play so we’re honoured to be at the Super League Grand Final,” said the band’s frontman, Tim Burgess.

“When I was a kid it was my ambition to play at Old Trafford so it’s a dream come true for me too, maybe not how I imagined when I was 10 but this’ll do fine!”

Blake Solly, Super League general manager, felt that the band could build on the positive reaction received by fellow Mancunians James at last year’s final.

“Last year’s fantastic entertainment included James creating an amazing atmosphere for an exhilarating Grand Final,” he said.

“We knew we had to follow up this year with another great band and we have certainly done that with the announcement of The Charlatans.

“Not only are we guaranteed thrilling action and entertainment on the pitch, we are also ensuring there is plenty of quality entertainment for both sports and music fans to enjoy before and during half-time of the match.

“Saturday October 10 is certainly going to be a busy day for sporting history to be made in Manchester and we are sure that the entertainment on show at Old Trafford will be a huge part of that.”
