A charity dinner, featuring greats of rugby league past and present, will be held at Headingley on June 7th to raise funds for Halifax fan David Singer.

Singer, pictured with Halifax coach Karl Harrison and Featherstone Rovers coach Daryl Powell, suffered a serious brain injury and was in a coma for several weeks following an incident after the 2010 Championship Grand Final.

Halifax fan David, had just celebrated his sides victory over Featherstone Rovers. The former paramedic is currently in a nursing home where he is showing unbelievable courage and determination in his battle to walk again. David’s wish is to become more mobile and regain his independence.

A charity dinner will be held for the David Singer Trust at Headingley Stadium on Thursday June 7th 2012 with the aim of raising money so that David can purchase a specially adapted vehicle and learn to drive once again. Leeds Rhinos, Halifax RLFC, Featherstone Rovers RLFC and the RFL Benevolent Fund are fully supporting the event and working hard towards a target of raising £10,000 on the evening.

The evening will feature many great names from the world of Rugby League as well as a raffle and and auction. It will be hosted by well known comedian Pete Emmett, the St Helens RLFC and Halifax RLFC matchday host.

Already confirmed are Malcolm Reilly, Garry Schofield, Daryl Powell and Karl Harrison. Other big names include England coach Steve McNamara and Warrington Wolves and England legend Adrian Morley plus many more to be announced.

Donations of £500 are sought to secure a table of ten for the event, with each table being hosted by a Rugby League great. Individual tickets are also available.

Commenting on the evening Daryl Powell said “I am delighted we have been able to support a function in aid of Dave Singer. I hope the rugby league family will come out in force for a top rugby fan. I met Dave and his family recently and they are wonderful people. This function is a great way to support Dave in the future”

Karl Harrison said “I am sure this event can be a huge success and help support Dave. I was touched by Dave’s determination to move forward with his life when I met him at the care home recently. It’s fantastic how many of the games legends have pledged their support and it shows that the rugby league community are behind Dave’s plight”.
