Hunslet have signed former Featherstone Rovers and Sheffield Eagles centre Nathan Chappell for the 2018 campaign.

The 27-year-old is naturally a centre but can play in the back-row if needed and has plenty of experience of playing in the Championship.

He came through the Huddersfield Giants Academy before joining Castleford Tigers for a short spell. He then moved onto Featherstone, scoring 14 tries in 12 games for the Rovers.

Chappell then tried his luck in Australia, playing in the Canberra Raiders Cup with Gouldburn Workers Bulldogs. He returned to England after two years and re-signed for Featherstone, scoring seven tries in 12 games for the club.

Midway through the 2016 campaign, he signed for Sheffield Eagles and scored six tries in nine appearances before penning a two-year contract with Oldham Roughyeds. He took the 2017 season out, spending time away from the game due to personal reasons.

And Hunslet head coach Gary Thornton is delighted to have secured the services of Chappell.

He said: “I’m delighted we have been able to sign a player of Nathan’s ability and experience.

“He is an established Championship player, having been at Featherstone, Sheffield and Oldham, so he has a wealth of experience at the higher level.

“He has also had a stint out in Australia, so his experience will be of huge benefit to us.

“He’s another player who is just as comfortable at centre or back-row, so he adds more competition for places, and will be a huge addition to our squad.”
