Kingstone Press Performance of the Week – Doncaster

Doncaster coach Paul Cooke paid tribute to the team spirit and togetherness of his squad after their 42-34 victory over Sheffield Eagles.

Cooke said: “We had a 10 minute spell before half time where we ended up 28-12 down and the game looked over, but there was no real panic.

“We knew that if we could get an even share of the ball in the second half that we could cause them some problems, and thankfully we did that.”

He added: “These guys are a good bunch. They work really hard for each other and it’s getting us through at the moment without us being spectacular.

“I just keep trying to tell the players to keep grounded. The longer we’re winning games and people don’t care about us, the better for us.”

Kingstone Press Try of the Week – Paul Mennell (Halifax)

Halifax halfback Paul Mennell finished a superb team move in his side’s 32-18 win at Barrow Raiders.

Halifax coach Karl Harrison said: “We put on a short-side play 80 metres from the Barrow line, and quick hands from Ross Divorty and Steve Tyrer got it to Tommy Saxton.

“He broke the line and cut inside, drew the full-back and trailing defenders, and kicked it back to the wing he had just run away from.

“Mennell, who had read the situation, picked up the ball cleanly and ran in from 20 metres out.”
