Just three Championship games over the weekend survived Storm Eunice. Here’s the latest recap…

Bradford’s home match with Barrow at Odsal Stadium was postponed. Despite the club’s best efforts, their waterlogged pitch was deemed unplayable.

Workington postponed their fixture with Halifax on Sunday morning, while Batley versus Sheffield was another hit by the storm.

Newcastle claim big win over Whitehaven

On Saturday, 719 fans witnessed a 64-point game in Newcastle.

It was Thunder who claimed a 40-24 victory, their second win of the season, over Whitehaven at Kingston Park Stadium. 

Wigan loanee Sam Halsall scored a hat-trick for Eamon O’Carroll’s side. Matty Nicholson opened the scoring for the hosts, while both Craig Mullen and Gideon Boafo crossed for a brace. Hooker Josh Eaves also scoring.

Featherstone continue unbeaten Championship run

Featherstone continued their unbeaten start to the 2022 campaign following a 30-12 over London Broncos. Rovers recorded an impressive 2,796 home attendance for the clash.

Brian McDermott’s side have won their first four games of the season, while Broncos remain winless so far in 2022.

Former Super League and England back-rower Brett Ferres made his first competitive start of the 2022 campaign.

Full-back Brandon Pickersgill opened the points scoring in wet conditions. Last year’s Championship top try scorer Gareth Gale also crossed before half-time for a 12-6 lead. Hooker Dean Parata scoring for the visitors.

Gale crossed for a brace in the second half, before Pickersgill crossed for his second. Centre Craig Hall then got on the scoresheet three minutes before time.

Leigh score 40 over York

Leigh claimed a 40-4 victory over York at the LNER Community Stadium.

Papua New Guinea international Edwin Ipape was named on the bench following his arrival in England earlier this week.

Liam Harris returned for the hosts, while Castleford loanee James Clare was named at centre for York.

Ben Reynolds gave his side a 2-0 lead with a penalty conversion on 15 minutes.

York hooker Will Jubb scored the first try of the afternoon, before Reynolds gave his side the lead at the break with two more penalty kicks.

Sam Stone scored Leigh’s first of the afternoon on 46 minutes. Reynolds later joined with a try of his own, giving his side a 18-4 lead on 51 minutes.

Caleb Aekins, Ed Chamberlain and Joe Mellor also crossed for their own tries for a big 40-4 victory away from home.

Leigh have now won three of their opening four games, losing to Featherstone in round two.

Dewsbury host Widnes live on Premier Sports as part of Monday Night Rugby League.
