Championship round-up: Hood inspires Leigh, Swinton claim vital points, Toronto mark Lamport return

Once again, the Championship provided us with some enthralling clashes on the weekend.

Jack Ormondroyd and Anthony Thackeray scored two tries each to help Featherstone Rovers beat Dewsbury Rams 42-18 at the Tetley’s Stadium on Sunday. Leeds hooker Brad Dwyer featured for Featherstone on dual-registration, along with Ormondroyd. Wakefield’s Jordan Crowther and Huddersfield’s Shannon Wakeman featured for Dewsbury on loan.

Barrow Raiders pulled off a fine 20-6 victory over Rochdale Hornets at Craven Park. George King and Pat Moran featured for Rochdale on dual-registration from Warrington, while Jonah Cunningham, who is on loan from Leigh, came off the bench for the Hornets.

Nick Gregson bagged two tries to help Leigh Centurions edge Halifax 36-30 in a thriller at the Leigh Sports Village. Scotland hooker Liam Hood was outstanding out of dummy-half for Leigh. Kieren Moss made his Fax debut after joining on loan from Hull KR, while Castleford duo Will Maher and James Green came off the bench for them.

Two tries from George Tyson inspired Swinton Lions to a crucial 29-18 victory over Sheffield Eagles at the Olympic Legacy Park. Matty Costello, Jake Spedding and Jack Ashworth featured for Sheffield on dual-registration from St Helens. Wigan youngsters Joe Brown, Josh Woods, Josh Ganson and Liam Paisley played for Swinton.

Toronto Wolfpack marked their return to the Lamport Stadium with a solid 32-12 win over London Broncos. Cory Paterson was a class above, scoring two tries as well as being solid in defence.

Toulouse Olympique ran in seven tries to beat Batley Bulldogs 42-26 at the Stade Ernest Argelès on Saturday. Bastien Ader scored twice for the French side, while Mark Kheirallah racked up a total of 18 points, having scored a try and kicked seven goals.

Toronto, Toulouse, Featherstone and Halifax are currently in the top four in the Championship table, while Swinton and Rochdale are level on points at the bottom.
