Championship Easter Monday round-up

Despite a second game in three days, the Championship and Championship One served up a day of close games on Easter Monday.

Bucking the trend, however, were Batley and Toulouse, who produced 82 points between them. It was the French side who left Mount Pleasant with an easy win, scoring 60 points to Batley’s 22.

Damian Couturier, Nathan Wynn, Bruno Ormerno and Antoni Maria all scored two tries each.

A misfiring Widnes side almost let a massive half-time lead slip at Doncaster, ending up 24-18 winners. Two tries came from Gavin Dodd.

Featherstone saw off Sheffield, as tries from Kain, Steel and Kirk gave Rovers a 20-12 victory.

Leigh’s win at Widnes could not inspire the Centurions to a Easter double as they lost at home to Barrow. The Raiders won 25-16, with tries from Catic, Finch, Ellis and Nixon.

Another hat-trick from young scrum-half Gregg McNally could not complete a second-half fight back from Whitehaven, who lost 24-18 at home to title-chasers Halifax. Black, Royston, Gleeson and Barker scored the tries for the away side, with all 24 points coming in the first period.

Hunslet defeated neighbours Keighley in the Championship One, with tries from Chapman, Brown and Faal giving the Hawks a 21-18 win.

Blackpool defeated London Skolars 48-10 away from home. Jonny Leather and John Clough both bagged braces.

Swinton saw off Workington 42-28, with two tries coming from Andy Saywell.

York defeated Rochdale 44-14. Paul March crossed twice.
