Challenge Cup special for Tomkins

Wigan talisman Sam Tomkins says the club’s rich cup pedigree will spur on the class of 2013 when they take on Hull FC in this year’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup final.

The Warriors return to Wembley on Saturday August 24 (3.00pm) for the first time since their victory there over Leeds Rhinos in the 2011 final and Tomkins says the club’s past successes, which include an unprecedented eight consecutive Wembley victories from 1988-1995, will help inspire the current squad.

“Playing in the Challenge Cup final means everything to me and for all the lads at the club,” said Tomkins. “For someone like me who has grown up in Wigan as a kid I understand the importance of this trophy.

“The club has a fantastic history in the Challenge Cup which everyone is aware of and it’s a great competition and it’s great for our fans to have the chance to go back to Wembley as they all deserve that opportunity.

“We’ve got a brilliant fans base and they’ve been behind us all season and they never fail to create an atmosphere.

“It will be fantastic to see them at Wembley for the final and hopefully we’ll all be celebrating at full time.”
