Challenge Cup round-up: Henson’s league debut, Featherstone impress & Swinton progress

Here is a recap of the Challenge Cup round one results…

York’s overseas recruit Brendan O’Hagan put in a stellar performance on Friday night to inspire the City Knights to a comfortable 30-6 win over Sheffield at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Oldham proved too strong for League 1 opponents Barrow with a 20-6 win on Saturday, and London Broncos beat Keighley 24-10, with Chris Hankinson kicking four goals for Danny Ward’s side.

Lachlan Walmsley scored a try and kicked three goals to help Whitehaven beat Dewsbury 23-16, while Dale Morton bagged a brace to inspire Batley to a 19-6 win at Halifax.

Gavin Henson made his rugby league debut for West Wales Raiders on Sunday but he was on the losing side as Widnes ran-out 58-4 winners at Stebonheath Park in Llanelli.

Featherstone produced a fine display to beat Championship rivals Bradford 41-16 at home. Craig Hall racked up a tally of 16 points for Rovers.

Swinton produced the goods as they edged past Newcastle 28-16 in the final game of the round at Heywood Road. Wales international Mike Butt scored twice for the hosts.
