Challenge Cup Preview: Hull KR v Wigan

James Gordon

Hull KR get the chance to extinguish the painful memories of their club record Super League defeat to Wigan in the Challenge Cup on Sunday.

The Warriors ran in 15 tries in an 84-6 thrashing of the Robins on Easter Monday, and return to Hull looking to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

The home side have only once beaten the 18-times winners in five meetings in the Challenge Cup.

Wigan are without scrum half Matty Smith, after he picked up a shoulder injury in last week’s win over Salford, so Sam Powell or Sean O’Loughlin will partner ex-Rovers man Blake Green at half-back. Pat Richards also returns to the squad.

Michael Dobson has been named in Craig Sandercock’s 19-man squad.

Wigan 19-man squad: Burke, Charnley, Crosby, Farrell, Flower, Goulding, Green, Hansen, Hughes, Lauaki, McIlorum, Mossop, O’Loughlin, Powell, Richards, Taylor, Thornley, L Tomkins, S Tomkins.

Hull KR 19-man squad: Salter, Caro, Walker, Green, Griffin, Paterson, Mika, Burns, Horne, Withers, Hall, Paea, Carlile, Lovegrove, Dobson, J Hodgson, Eden, Beaumont, D Hodgson.

Prediction: Hard to see Hull KR getting revenge for their league mauling – away win.
