Celtic 16-42 Huddersfield

James Gordon

Celtic said goodbye to Bridgend as their regular home ground with a 42-16 defeat at the hands of Challenge Cup finalists Huddersfield.

The depleted Crusaders were never at the races as Nathan Brown’s men ran in seven converted tries as hopes of a fairytale ending at Brewery Field were dashed.

Shaun Lunt and Liam Fulton each scored a brace of tries as the Giants took an 18-0 half time lead. Larne Patrick, David Hodgson and Paul Whatuira also crossed as the visitors threatened a riot.

But Celtic stuck in there, and were rewarded with tries through Anthony Blackwood, Mark Lennon and Steve Tyrer.

The Crusaders will move to Rodney Parade in Newport next season, although do hope to take some games on the road to Bridgend, and also the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.
