York City Knights will go into their game with Northumbria Uni having won only one of four competitive games so far this season but coach Dave Woods isn’t taking the opposition lightly despite York be overwhelming favourites.

“You can’t take them lightly,” said Woods. “If we give them a sniff, they’ll get their adrenaline pumping and that’s something they’ll be able to kick-on from so we need to make sure we put in a big performance.

“We’re looking good at the minute, we’ve only got a couple of injuries so we should be at full strength. We want to go out against Northumbria and put in a big performance and get a good win which will give us a boost and help give us a kick start for the beginning of the Championship season.”

York’s Matt Garside qualifies to play for both teams in this weekend’s game as a Northumbria student and he has been the focus of speculation regarding which side he will represent, but Woods has confirmed Garside will be in a Knights kit if fit.

“Matt picked up a knock in one of our Northern Rail Cup games which has kept him on the sidelines but if he’s fit for the weekend then we definitely want him on our side of the field come game time,” said Woods.
