Cayless quits St Helens

St Helens prop Jason Cayless is to return home after failing to recover from a shoulder injury that has blighted most of his 2009 season.

The 29-year-old New Zealander sustained an injury in April from a “chicken-wing” tackle and is out of contract at the end of this year.

He made 83 appearances for Saints whilst also playing a part in both of their Challenge Cup victories in 2006 and 2007 and the Grand Final victory of 2006.

Chairman Eamonn McManus said: “I would like to wish Jason Cayless every success and every luck in his life back in Australia.

“It has been a tragedy for him and a disappointment for us that injury has blighted his last two seasons at the club.”
