Catalans swoop for Knights half-back

Catalans have signed Australian scrum-half Scott Dureau to replace Brent Sherwin for next season.

Dureau, 23, has made 40 appearances in the NRL for Newcastle Knights since making his debut against Manly in 2007 and links up with new Dragons coach Trent Robinson.

Dureau said: “I am extremely excited about joining the Catalans. It is a fantastic part of the world and the club is on the up. I have worked with new Coach Trent Robinson before and can’t wait to play under him for the next two seasons.”

Sherwin moved to France from Castleford mid-way through this season, as the Dragons looked to fill the void left by the departures of Adam Mogg and Greg Bird.

Dureau becomes one of Robinson’s first signings as Dragons coach – the former Toulouse player will take over the reigns from current boss Kevin Walters at the end of the season.

Robinson said: “Scott is a young scrum half with a tremendous potential and I am sure he will have a big impact into Super League. He is a leader who will manage the team around the park with his xcellent long kicking game. It was very important for the club to get this kind of player profile.”
