Catalans front-rower Sam Moa has signed a new two-year deal with the Dragons.

The Tonga international will now stay at the Stade Gilbert Brutus until the end of the 2020 season.

Moa joined Catalans from Sydney Roosters ahead of the 2017 season and has made 57 appearances for the French club so far.

On his decision to re-sign with the Dragons, he said: “I’m very proud to wear the Catalans Dragons jersey and represent my family, this club and our supporters.

“Last year was without doubt the hardest in my career. You don’t realise the character inside you until you go through those hard times, but now we are coming through the other side.

“We still have a long way to go as a team and club but I believe we have the team and staff to build something special and I want to be part of it.

“My family have settled in well here in Perpignan and we are happy to call this home for the next two seasons.”

Catalans head coach Steve McNamara is pleased to see Moa remain at the club.

He added: “Quality overseas signings are vital in getting the makeup right of any Super League squad and in re-signing Sam for the next two years, we have retained one of the best.

“Sam’s performances on the field have helped the whole team make significant progress over the season but his influence off the field, around the club and the area of Perpignan are just as important.

“He is a genuine leader and influence for all involved at the Catalans Dragons and we are delighted he has chosen to extend his stay with our club.”
