Catalans receive support from France president Emmanuel Macron

France president Emmanuel Macron has pledged his support for Catalans Dragons ahead of the Challenge Cup final.

French publication L’independentreported that Dragons supporter Gérard Mauréta sent the French president a letter after the team’s semi-final win over St Helens at the University of Bolton’s Stadium.

It is probably fair to say that Gérard was not actually expecting an official response from president Macron, but that is what he got.

A latter arrived at Gérard’s door earlier this week with the following message from the president.

The message read: “The Head of State wishes, first of all, to send congratulations to the players for their victory in the semi-final against St Helens, on the score of 35 to 16.

“Mr. Emmanuel Macron hopes that they will carry high the colours of France during the final which will take place at Wembley, on August 25.

“Catalans Dragons, all of France is behind you!”

Catalans face Warrington Wolves in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
