Catalans have made an offer for France international half-back Theo Fages, out of contract at the end of the year, according to French newspaper reports.

Fages, 24, spent his junior years with SM Pia before breaking through in Super League at Salford and now at St Helens, making more than 150 first grade appearances.

His deal is up at the end of 2019 and he is free to talk to other clubs.

Leading Perpignan newspaper, L’Independant, says Fages has been approached by coach Steve McNamara and is a serious target for the club.

It also says that St Helens are keen to retain him, but that they have been slow in finalising their contract offer.

Meanwhile, Wigan’s Morgan Escare has expressed a desire to return to Catalans, despite having a year left on his deal at the DW Stadium.

St Helens back-rower Zeb Taia has also expressed an interest in making the move back to Perpignan.
