Catalans 32-30 Leeds

James Gordon

A dramatic last second try secured victory for Catalans in an exciting game against Leeds.

The Dragons had blown a 28-12 lead, with the Rhinos fighting back to seemingly steal the two points in France.

But winger Cyril Stacul crossed in the dying seconds to secure the Dragons’ sixth win of the season.

After a cagey opening, it took 25 minutes for the first score to be registered, Steven Bell crossing for Catalans. Danny McGuire then grabbed a brace of tries before the interval, but two Thomas Bosc penalties meant Leeds went in with a narrow 12-10 advantage.

After the break, Catalans hit their straps, and raced in to a 28-12 lead with tries from Jean Philippe Baile and Olivier Elima (2).

But the Rhinos hit back with three tries in a stunning eight minute spell, Ryan Hall, Ali Lauitiiti and Brent Webb crossing the whitewash, with Kevin Sinfield‘s boot edging Leeds in to a 30-28 lead.

Catalans took a short kick off, and when Lee Smith fumbled the ball, Thomas Bosc recovered it, and he and Adam Mogg created space for Jason Croker to send Stacul over for the thrilling finish.
