Catalans 20-34 Wakefield

Wakefield secured a home tie in the end of season play-offs with an impressive 34-20 win against Catalans in France.

The win secures a first ever play-off tie at Belle Vue for the Wildcats, who have enjoyed a solid season under the stewardship of John Kear.

Brad Drew, who had earlier announced a return to Huddersfield for next season, was in inspired form, kicking five goals and having a hand in a number of Wakefield’s best moves.

Drew’s boot gave the visitors the half time advantage, kicking three penalties and converting tries from Ryan Atkins and Sam Obst as the Wildcats went in 18-10 up at the break – Sebastien Raguin crossing for a brace of tries for the hosts.

Catalans looked to hold the ascendancy at the start of the second half, as two quick fire tries from Casey McGuire edged them in front.

But two tries from Luke George, either side of a second effort from Atkins, helped Wakefield secure the two points, while Catalans still wait to guarantee their play-off spot for a second successive season.
