The 2017 Super League Leaders’ Shield winners Castleford will travel to Newcastle to take on League 1 side Thunder later this month.

The Tigers will visit Kingston Park on Saturday January 27 to take on their dual-registration partners.
Thunder are coached by former Castleford academy product Jason Payne.

Tigers CEO Steve Gill told the club’s official website: “We are really pleased to announce our dual registration friendly fixture with Newcastle Thunder.

“We’ve kept n touch with Jason over the years, and we feel this partnership will benefit both clubs.

“Our partnership with Newcastle also gives us an opportunity to grow our Tigers brand in the sports mad North East.

“We are confident that we can help with the development of Rugby League in the North East and that Newcastle Thunder will help in the development of our younger players in the coming season.”

Newcastle have played Widnes and St Helens during pre-season in the last two seasons and the city will once again this year host the Magic Weekend at St James’ Park.

Thunder reached the League 1 play-offs last season having finished fifth after the Super 8s phase, ahead of Doncaster, Keighley and Workington.
