Castleford have confirmed the signing of Salford centre Ashley Gibson on a two year-contract.

Gibson, 26, who can also play on the wing, will join the Tigers when his deal with the City Reds expires at the end of the current season.

Yorkshire-born Gibson joined Salford ahead of the 2010 season from Leeds, after making 32 appearances for his hometown team.

He has since gone on to score 54 tries in a total of 111 Super League career matches, and he is looking forward to extending that record with his new team.

“I’m chuffed to sign for Castleford Tigers,” Gibson said after completing the deal.

“When my manager came to me saying that Cas were interested in me I was over the moon.

“There were a couple of other offers but I wanted to be playing my rugby close to home so it’s a great opportunity for me in Castleford.

“I want to do the best that I can for the club and try to finish as high as we can in the table.

“Castleford’s recent form has shown everybody what they can do so I’m happy that I’m going to be a part of that.”

Tigers head coach Daryl Powell said: “Ashley is a player that I have rated since I coached at Leeds when he was a young player coming through the system.

“He is a versatile and skilful player with a great attitude and his signing further strengthens the quality and depth in our squad for next season.”
