Castleford sign Daniel Smith from Huddersfield

Castleford have announced the signing of Huddersfield front-rower Daniel Smith on a deal until the end of 2019, with the option of a further year.

The 26-year-old joined the Giants on a four-and-a-half-year deal in 2015, having previously spent time at fellow Super League side Wakefield and League One Oldham.

He has found chances hard to come by so far this season, playing five times and scoring twice on loan at Featherstone.

Smith has been handed squad number 34 and goes straight into contention for this Friday’s game against Wigan at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle.

On signing for the Tigers, he said: “It’s been a mad crazy couple of weeks. My agent gave me a call and he said this deal was on the table and I snapped his hand off really.

“I can’t wait to get started, it’s my hometown club so I’m looking forward to it. I live two minutes away which is ideal not having to travel to training, I just can’t wait to get started.”

Castleford Head Coach Daryl Powell added: “He’s a very skilful player and I think there’s loads of potential in him.

“He’s going to add depth and quality to our team, along with competition for places, and the way we play will be really suited to him, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he goes for the remainder of the season.”
