Castleford need consistency, says Daryl Powell

Castleford coach Daryl Powell said the team need to gain some consistency following their win at Huddersfield.

The Tigers put in a clinical first half display and took a 28-6 lead into the interval thanks to tries from Paul McShane, Greg Minikin, Alex Foster, Jake Webster and Greg Eden.

Huddersfield came back into the game in the second half though and scored 22 second half points, but Castleford did just enough to hang on for a 40-28 victory.

And Powell said the Tigers need to start performing for the full 80 minutes.

He said: “We’re not coming out after half time and playing the same way we have in the first half.

“It’s a little bit disappointing. There’s a consistency to it. We’re ticking along alright in terms of picking up points but we’re not playing that great.

“We have won three out of our four games (over Easter), so we are ticking along alright in terms of picking points up, but we’re not playing that great.

“We just seem to be coming out of half time with a really different mentality and we have got to change. We need to improve.

“The players don’t really know the reason why, but we have got to do something about it.”

Castleford will look to put in an 80-minute performance on Sunday as they welcome Catalans Dragons to the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, 3:30pm kick-off.
