Castleford just a point away from glory

Castleford are just a point away from claiming the 2017 Super League League Leaders Shield.

They have the chance to do it in front of their home supporters this Thursday, when Wakefield are in town.

Daryl Powell’s men have won 21 of their 25 league games so far to much acclaim from supporters and press alike.

They will become just the seventh different side to finish top of the league table in the 22 seasons of Super League, and the first new side since Huddersfield in 2013.

St Helens have topped the table eight times, including the very first Super League season when they were crowned champions.

The other sides are Wigan (5), Bradford (4), Leeds (2) and Warrington (2).

The team that has finished top of the table has gone on to win the Grand Final 10 times.

In 2014, a final day defeat to Catalans prevented Castleford claiming the League Leader’s Shield.
