A try from Greg Minkin against his former club has gifted Castleford a 20-16 win over the York City Knights.

The Tigers faced the home team in a friendly at Bootham Crescent. The Super League side, who eight players from their Under-19s, battled back to edge the victory.

York started strongly, Mike Emmett crossing after just four minutes. Soon after Brad Hey was in after chasing down a grubber kick, with the City Knights taking a 12-0 lead.

Jy Hitchcox hit back for Cas but Ryan Hampshire was unable to convert the try. Then Conor Fitzsimmons crashed over, taking the score to 12-10 at half-time.

In the second half the Tigers went in front when Pat Diskin was set up by Hitchcox.

Some spirited Cas defence kept York out, Davey Dixon going close to tieing it up for the League 1 club.

Then James Morland did just that, scoring in the corner, to level it 16-16.

A draw looked destined until the late intervention by Minkin, the former City Knight pulling out an amazing try in the corner to win the game for Castleford.
