Castleford confirm dual-registration with Keighley

Castleford have agreed a dual-registration partnership with League 1 club Keighley for the upcoming season.

The partnership could see players not selected in Castleford’s squad appear for the League 1 club, while players can also move in the opposite direction to feature for the Tigers’ reserves, with Cougars duo Dan Parker and Dan Hawksworth both featuring in a recent pre-season friendly against Widnes.

“Our dual registration agreement with Keighley provides our coaching staff with another vital option to secure game time for players within our structures,” said Castleford Tigers director of rugby, Jon Wells.

“We’ve got an excellent relationship with Keighley and both Rhys Lovegrove (head coach) and former Tiger Jake Webster have spent time in our first team environment during the off season as we establish the links to make this partnership a real success.

“Along with the academy and reserves competitions, we are now partnered with clubs in both the Championship and League One, giving us a range of pathways to continue the development of the players within our group, whilst we can also offer valuable game time to some of Keighley’s reserves players as well with the Cougars no longer able to play in the reserves competition this year.”

  1. Keighley gain nothing from this. All they will get are players with no club loyalty who are discarded by Cas to make way for overseas signings.
In the meantime the local senior amateur club are thriving but don’t seem to be involved with the town’s professional club.

    • Young players and first teamers from Keighley will get a chance to play in cas reserves and help there development
but Keighley don’t gain anything lol

  2. Dual registration is iniquitous. I don’t know many grass roots fans who welcome it. It is another example of the Super League tail wagging the RFL dog. No wonder we rely on foreign players when the development of home grown players is stifled.
