Cas looking to bounce back

Castleford Tigers welcome Brent Sherwin and Liam Higgins back into the squad for Sunday’s Super League clash with the Salford City Reds.

Sherwin, who will be making his 50th appearance for the Tigers if he plays, has missed the last two games and Higgins was ruled out of last Sundays cup-tie, both suffering from knocks to the shoulder. Loan signing Chris Tuson is also back in contention after being ruled out of the cup game in order not to be cup tied for Wigan.

Michael Shenton is likely to be sidelined for another 3-4 weeks with his hand injury and Brett Ferres, whilst on the road to recovery, is likely to face another three weeks out of action. However the squad is in better shape than recent weeks when injuries have taken a big toll on resources, although the club have lost two loan signings.

Coach Terry Matterson said: “The guys have been hurting this week and appreciate that we should have done a lot better last Sunday. It was a big disappointment to be knocked out of the cup at the first hurdle, there were no excuses, we let ourselves down and we can only turn things around ourselves.

“Our recent form has been particularly disappointing because we were doing things a lot better in the early weeks of the campaign and that is where we have got to get back to. We are also getting some bodies back which is a big plus.

“Salford have shown some improved form in recent weeks but it is a game that we are capable of winning and I’ll be looking for, and expecting, a big response on Sunday. The players owe that to the fans who have understandably been frustrated of late, but however strong their feelings are I would urge them to give their vocal backing to the guys.”
