Carney in talks with Catalan

Catalan Dragons have confirmed that they in talks to bring Todd Carney to the Stade Gilbert Brutus next season.

The 28-year-old halfback received what amounted to a life ban from the NRL, following his infamous ‘bubbling’ prank earlier this seaon.

“There are a lot of rumours in the media but the deal is not done,” Catalan spokesman Yannick Rey told Australian reporters.

“We are still in negotiations with him.”

Carney has also been rumoured to be interesting other, English-based Super League clubs, with Hull KR one name which has been mentioned.

His attempt to sign for Huddersfield was stymied in 2008, however, due to visa issues relating to his previous criminal convictions.

Those issues may well be less of a hindrance when it comes to playing in France.
