Terry Campese has confirmed his departure of Hull KR and will be the captain-coach of the Queanbeyan Blues in Australia next year.

Campese had an injury-plagued stint with the Robins and could not help them avoid relegation.

Queanbeyan play in the Canberra Rugby League competition and Campese was once a junior at the club. The Blues have produced a number of great players over the years, including Glenn Lazarus, Ricky Stuart, Brent Kite and Wallaby Matt Giteau.

Campese is excited to start his coaching career.

“Obviously when you talk about post-football and what happens after rugby, I’ve been thinking about [coaching] for a couple of years now,” he told The Canberra Times.

“My passion has always been rugby league… and this is a good first, I think. We see with Simon [Woolford] now making the transition to the Knights reserve grade system.

“Hopefully I get experience here and be successful and hopefully some opportunities come down the track.

“It’s something that I’ll give 110%in and it’ll be good to give back to the club that gave me an opportunity to start my rugby league career.”

Campese will also play for Italy in the upcoming qualifiers for the 2017 World Cup.
