Burns is not to be loaned out by Saints

Keiron Cunningham has confirmed that halfback Travis Burns is not to be loaned out despite interest from Super League clubs.

Burns has not been able to nail down a permanent spot in the Saints team in 2016, with Cunningham opting for the likes of Jordan Turner and Jon Wilkin to partner Australian Luke Walsh in the halves.

However, despite the interest from other clubs in the league, the Saints coach is insistent that Burns is going nowhere.

“A short term loan doesn’t really interest us,” Cunningham told the St Helens Reporter.

“There’s no benefit in it as far as we are concerned and it would be foolish if we shipped out any players at this stage of the campaign with a busy Easter period coming up.

“Down the track, Travis will feature on numerous occasions but it might not be in the half-back role. At this moment in time he is doing a good job supporting hooker James Roby.”
