Burgess wants back-to-back Odsal wins

Bradford prop Tom Burgess says they want to make sure last weekend’s win over St Helens is followed up by victory over Salford on Sunday.

The Bulls have silenced the so-called experts that predicted them to finish at the foot of the Super League leader with four wins from their first seven games, which sees them occupy a play-off berth.

They could put some breathing space between themselves and the chasing pack with a win over the City Reds, who are currently one place below them in 8th.

The 12-8 win over St Helens was the Bulls first at Odsal this term and they have a chance to follow that up in their second consecutive game in front of their home fans.

Speaking in the players blog on the club’s official website, Burgess said: “(St Helens) threw a lot at us and I thought we defended very well against them. That score against us was the lowest so far this season and what we should be looking at every week now because we have proved we can defend against good opposition.

“We have Salford at home this week and having beaten St Helens we don’t want to lose to them.  They have played well this year and got some good wins and we know what they are capable of.  We are taking them very seriously but we are confident if we play as well as we can we will get the result.”

Burgess, who broke on to the scene with 18 Super League appearances last term, has played in all seven of the Bulls’ league games so far this season.

He added: “I am really enjoying my rugby at the moment. Last week I played a lot longer and that’s a step in the right direction.  We are all enjoying playing and training together and I think it has showed on the field.”
