The world’s best rookie, George Burgess, says he will use England‘s semi-final defeat to better himself as a player.

Burgess, 21, was named as the International ‘Rookie of the Year’ on Wednesday, just four days after suffering heartbreak against New Zealand.

The South Sydney prop is determined to use the experience to his advantage, and he had this to say:

“I am sure I will use that experience; there are things in life that won’t go to waste.

“You use everything you can. So, somewhere down the track in my career, I will look back on it and draw something from it.”

Echoing the words of international teammate Gareth Widdop, Burgess also said that England must now move on and look to the future.

“It’s just a game and something you have got to get past and move forward,” he added.

“We will lick our wounds and I am sure next time we will go one step closer.”
